Central Jersey Maternity Photographer
Becoming a parent is one of life’s most beautiful transformations, and as a photographer, I’ve always felt that maternity sessions hold a quiet, powerful magic unlike anything else I photograph. As the lead photographer at Delgado Studios, I’m often asked what makes a maternity session truly memorable. For me, it’s simple: connection, intention, and storytelling. And this recent session with Courtney and Ray at Bayonet Farms in Holmdel, NJ reminded me exactly why I love being a central jersey maternity photographer.
Bayonet Farms is one of my favorite locations for maternity portraits. Its rolling fields, rustic barns, and sweeping golden-hour light create the perfect backdrop for expectant parents. When Courtney reached out to plan her session, she was glowing—excited, emotional, and counting down the days until she and Ray would welcome their first child. Little did we know that their sweet baby girl would make her debut on Thanksgiving Day. Knowing that now makes the images we created feel even more meaningful.
As a central jersey maternity photographer, I’m always looking for ways to elevate a session beyond what you see every day on Pinterest or Instagram. Maternity photography is more than a pretty dress and a sunset. It’s about showcasing strength, anticipation, and the intimate connection between two people about to enter a completely new chapter of life. With Courtney and Ray, I wanted to create something unique—images that stood apart from typical natural-light portraits while still feeling timeless and true to their story.
To do that, I incorporated creative lighting, something I’ve been exploring more deeply over the past few years. For this session, I packed a couple of off-camera flashes, light modifiers, and gels to sculpt light in a way that emphasized shape, emotion, and atmosphere. Instead of relying solely on the natural glow of sunset, I enhanced it—allowing the lighting to wrap around Courtney’s silhouette, highlight the curves of her belly, and bring a cinematic quality to the images.
At one point, I positioned Courtney in the field, exposing for the beautiful sky.. I then overpowered the sun with an off camera flash. This created a very dramatic maternity portrait of Courtney. It was subtle but powerful—exactly the kind of detail that elevates a session. These are the moments I strive for as a central jersey maternity photographer: the blend of natural beauty and intentional artistry.
One of my favorite images from our time together happened completely spontaneously. We were walking between fields when a gentle breeze caught Courtney’s dress, lifting it ever so slightly. I quickly adjusted a rim light to catch the fabric’s movement while directing Ray to hold her hands. The result was a portrait that felt romantic, ethereal, and deeply emotional. It captured not just what they looked like but who they were in that moment—two people fully present, fully connected, and overflowing with excitement.
Courtney was radiant the entire session. Knowing she has now given birth to a beautiful baby girl gives these images an even deeper sense of purpose. Maternity photos freeze a fleeting chapter of life—one that goes by quicker than most parents expect. As a central jersey maternity photographer, I feel honored to preserve that brief window before the world changes forever.
What I loved most about this session was how natural Courtney and Ray were with each other. Whether they were laughing, holding hands, or sharing quiet moments between shots, they let their genuine connection guide the session. My role was simply to elevate their story with thoughtful posing, creative lighting, and the right timing. That combination allowed us to capture images that were artistic yet authentic, creative yet emotional—everything a maternity session should be.
If you’re expecting and considering maternity photos, Bayonet Farms is a fantastic place to document this chapter. More importantly, your session should feel personal—unique to your personality, your relationship, and your journey into parenthood. As a central jersey maternity photographer, my goal is always to create images that reflect who you truly are while adding a touch of artistry that makes the photographs stand out for years to come.
Courtney and Ray’s session was a reminder of why I love what I do. Watching them embrace the anticipation of becoming parents, capturing those quiet moments of connection, and using creative lighting to shape the story—all of it came together in a way that felt unforgettable. Now that their baby girl has arrived, I’m grateful we froze this beautiful moment in time.
